Eagle Mountain Assembly of God

AM Sermon Outline – 07/25/10

WHY WE SHOULD BELIEVE IN MISSIONS:  I TIMOTHY 2:1-6

Why am I preaching this sermon?

I want to see everyone in this congregation have a heart for world evangelism as evidenced by:

·        your own personal efforts to point unbelievers toward Bible truth

·        your prayers for unbelievers and the work of missions

·        your financial involvement in missions on a monthly basis

Three Reasons why we should all believe in, and be involved in, the work of missions/world evangelism:

  1. JESUS IS THE WORLD’S ONLY HOPE

v.5:  There is “one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus!”

It sounds so enlightened to say “All religions have value and lead to the same place – there are many paths to heaven – who are we to say someone else’s religion is wrong?”

What do you think – is Christianity “a way” or “the way” to be reconciled to God?

If Jesus was wrong about how to get to the Father (John 14:6), then He is no way, has no truth, and is no source of life – with Jesus we either believe all or nothing!

Hindus, Muslims, Jews without Jesus, New Agers, Pagans and Atheists are all equally lost in their unbelief in Jesus

Don’t buy into the “enlightened” mis-beliefs of our culture – Jesus is the only way or He is no way at all!

  1. GOD DESIRES ALL MEN TO BE SAVED

If God wants everyone to be saved, and if Jesus is the only way for that to happen, then everyone must hear about Jesus and hopefully make the right choice

Despite anyone’s past or present, God’s love for them continues to reach out – and we, the church, are supposed to be God’s hand extended

If not us, then who else loves the Father enough to care about the unsaved?

Missions is God’s plan for our generation – there is no other option!

  1. THE TIME IS SHORT

Everyday that Jesus tarries in his return for his Church means that thousands more are born again into the Kingdom

Though God does not want anyone to go to hell, one day this Age of Grace will end as Jesus returns for his people and the world left behind will be plunged into spiritual darkness

Approximately 5 billion people would be left behind if Jesus returned today – so while world missions has made an impact, we are far from finished

What do you want Jesus to find you doing when He returns?  We should all be found praying, reaching, and giving

“Only one life, t’will soon be past – only what’s done for Christ will last!”

Friends, how are you spending your lives?  What is important to you?  What has your heart?

Consider these questions:

If everyone gave to missions like you do, would there be more missionaries, or less?

If everyone prayed for missions like you do, would their work be more anointed, or less?

If everyone cared for the unsaved as much as you do, would there be more Christians in America, or less?

If you don’t like the answers to these questions, what will you do about it?

The most important Question:  What have you personally done with Jesus?
